This innovative scheme was introduced on a pilot basis in 2009 to provide visitors to the National Park and local businesses with simple ways to make positive and practical contributions to making the Park a better place. It is a ‘win win’ for both businesses and their customers. The scheme gives visitors the opportunity to make donations through local businesses in the knowledge that any funding contributed goes directly into important wildlife, conservation, heritage and access projects in the National Park. Businesses are also able to top up or match visitor contributions and enhance their ‘green credentials’ while at the same time helping to improve the quality of the visitor experience within the Park. Through the scheme there are also opportunities for visitors, owners of businesses and their staff to participate in ‘Make a Difference Volunteering Days.’
Almost 100 businesses are now participating in this scheme as is gathers momentum and is supporting an increasing number of worthwhile projects throughout the Park. In the pilot phase the scheme was financially supported by Argyll and Stirling European LEADER Programmes and it continues to be supported by Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Enterprise, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority and the Friends.
